Travelling in hostels can make meeting people easier, offer shared spaces and resources, and introduce you to different ways of discovering a destination. The experience depends on the hostel you choose and how you want to take part.
Room for something unplanned
You can plan every detail of a trip and still remember a conversation that was never on the itinerary. In a hostel, shared spaces create opportunities for those encounters: while cooking, waiting for an activity or asking for directions.
You do not have to make friends on every stay. The difference is having an environment where meeting people is within reach.
Decide what you want to spend on
Sharing a room may help you manage your budget. A kitchen, where available, lets you choose when to eat out and when to cook. That can leave room for more travel days or an experience you care about.
Compare the full cost: location, transport, included services and any extras. A lower starting price is not always the best fit.
See a place through other perspectives
A roommate can tell you what they found yesterday. Someone on the team can explain how to get around the neighbourhood. You can share what you have discovered too.
That exchange of experience is one of the reasons we care about hostels. Knowledge of a place comes from more than one direction, and you can contribute to it.

Is it only about saving money?
Price can be a reason, but so can social life, common areas and the connection with a place. Compare the whole experience.
Do I have to join activities?
You can choose your own plans. Check how activities work and join the ones you want to.
Choose a hostel for what it lets you experience, as well as the cost of sleeping there.
